Billing Rates and Practices

Fees are generally computed by the hour in increments of tenths. Fees are rounded up to the nearest tenth; for example, an eight minute phone call will be billed as two tenths of an hour. My current hourly rate is $500. My rate is subject to increase no more than once per year, and are applied only to time spent after the date of increase. In some circumstances, I will consider flat fee arrangements for specific tasks, in which a client will pay a specified amount for a project regardless of the time it takes to complete it. I will also consider rate discounts or deferred payments for clients who are undergoing significant financial hardship.

I reserve the right to condition services upon receipt of a retainer deposit in advance of commencement or completion of work. Deposits are held in a non-interest bearing trust account that complies with Oregon State Bar requirements. Unused deposit amounts can are fully refundable unless they are needed to pay existing or foreseeable fees.

In my discretion, I will grant "courtesy fee discounts" from the fees that can be computed from time actually spent on a client's matters by an amount I believe to be appropriate to provide my clients good value and efficient service.

I reserve the right to charge interest at the rate of 1% per month for fees that are not paid within 30 days after issuance of the first invoice.
